EXIT POLL: TV Sitcoms

1. If I had more picks, I would've also drafted:
1) Everybody Loves Raymond - conveniently, I copied and pasted this from Thomas. I love this show for big dumb Robert and mean old Dad. Just hilarious. Raymond is ok, Debra mostly sucks and the kids are useless - but big dumb Robert and mean old Dad - along with timely quips from obnoxious cooking Mom - were brilliant, IMO.
2) ALF - gotta go with Noah here. The original Tanner family KILLED ME!
3) Who's the Boss - I'm sorry, but did I just see Alyssa Milano? I don't even know the premise of the show, but I do know I watched it for her quite regularly.
4) Family Ties! I am embarrassed that none of us took that show. Good job, Melissa!
5) The Jeffersons! I was surprised it didn't get taken after I mentioned this show in the very first pick of the draft!

2. The Steal of the Draft (SOTD), meaning the best pick late in the draft at the best value, was:
SOTD: Cosby Show at 2.5. I know that's the second round, but in a 5 round draft, that show should have gone so fast! Also, M*A*S*H at 3.4! Fridge Lords took them BOTH!

3. Other than my own team, my favorite team somebody drafted is:
Favorite: Rough Necks
Reason: I'm in agreement with Noah again. This was a great list, and I think the overall best list. The only show I'm not familiar with is, like Noah, 30 Rock - but, like Noah, I am consistently told to watch that show!

4. At the risk of revealing my pick for future drafts, my favorite TV theme song is/was:
Favorite: I'm going to read this question as "my favorite SITCOM theme song is/was": The Jefferson's! So awesome, even Adolf likes it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCJTR3XeiAc

DRAFT 01 - TV Sitcoms (Primetime) - Results

Chivalry is Dead
1.1 All in the Family - CID writes: "I will actually have a hard time swallowing any argument for any other program being a better sitcom. This show was so funny it made me hurt myself laughing - but that's not even the important part. This show was cutting edge and controversial. They had jokes about block busting, stupid Pollacks, queers, Commies, etc. Archie was a complete bastard and still the most lovable character ever on television. Then there's the supporting case that includes both Rob Reiner, Jean Stapelton, Sally Struthers and Sherman Hemsley - that's right, George Jefferson. The Jeffersons was a spinoff of All in the Family, so it gets credit for that great show, too!"
2.8 Black Adder - (For simplicity's sake, I suggest this includes all of the runnings/variations of Black Adder.) Rowan Atkinson at his snarky, sharp best. Absolutely hilarious. Most people know Atkinson for his Mr Bean persona, who is a bit clueless and perhaps even dumb, but this character, Black Adder, is quite the opposite. He has great supporting actors, as well, including Hugh Laurie of House - incidentally also playing a character utterly unlike his House persona.
3.1 The Thin Blue Line - Oh I'm back to the Rowan Atkinson hole, but not to Mr Bean! The Thin Blue Line is my selection. Not a long running show, and not nearly so popular in Merka as I'd like, but hilarious. A wonderful cop sitcom with Atkinson playing Inspector Raymond Fowler, a bit of a throwback to older times in his small town's police force. If you liked Hot Fuzz, you will like this program - I can't imagine Hot Fuzz could have been made without The Thin Blue Line preceding it.
4.8 Father Ted - Based around the lives of Fathers Ted Crilly, Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, three Irish priests who have been banished from the mainland. They live on Craggy Island (a fictional island off the west coast of Ireland - essentially a fake addition to the Aran Islands which one flies over if one were to fly into Shannon International Airport - or so I hear...) with their slightly crazed and tea-addicted house keeper, Mrs Doyle. Dougal isn't the brightest man ever, Ted has a knack for getting into awkward situations, and the less said about Father Jack the alcoholic swear machine the better. In point of fact, I'm not sure that Father Jack ever says anything remotely intelligible unless it is absolutely horribly vile. Despite being in the middle of nowhere the trio find plenty of ways of causing chaos and confusion. To sum up, it's fecking hilarious - and in Ireland!
5.1 The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - And in case you doubt this as the most ingenious sleeper pick of all time ... Allow me to rhyme a moment!

Now this is the story all about how,
My life got flipped, turned upside down,
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there,
I'll tell you how I became the Prince of a town called Bel-Air.

In West Philadelphia I was born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days.
Chillin' out, maxin', relaxin all cool,
And all shootin' some b-ball outside of the school.

When a couple of guys who were up to no good,
Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood.
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared,
And said "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air."

I whistled for a cab, and when it came near,
The license plate said "FRESH" and it had dice in the mirror.
If anything I could say that this cat was rare,
But I thought "Nah forget it, Yo home to Bel-Air."

I pulled up to the house about seven or eight,
and I yelled to the cabbie, "Yo homes, smell ya later."
Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there,
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air.
